Joan Touchstone leads communications at IVP, building external awareness and brand reputation for the storied firm, its partners and its portfolio. As a creative strategist and storyteller, she designs programs that reflect how IVP helps breakout companies grow into enduring technology leaders. In this capacity, Joan runs communications strategy, provides counsel to portfolio companies, and directs the team responsible for PR, social media, speaking engagements, conferences, and awards.
Prior to IVP, Joan directed integrated PR, social and digital communications programs for consumer technology brands as an SVP at DKC. Over the course of her career, Joan has led PR programs for brands including Dyson, Dolby, BMW, Indeed, Mars, and Oracle, designing memorable campaigns and launching now-iconic products that reflected their position on the cutting edge of technology. She also worked closely with emerging companies to develop the messaging, positioning, and strategic PR that raise their visibility among both mainstream consumers and affinity groups, turning once little-known startups Discord, Shyp, Neighbor, and Zignal Labs into New York Times, WIRED and Wall Street Journal news. She started her career at Blanc & Otus, a PR agency specializing in storytelling for B2B technology companies.
A Bay Area native, Joan earned her BA from University of California Santa Barbara. She lives with her husband and two children in San Francisco, where you can find her jogging or cycling outdoors, doing arts & crafts at her kids’ school, or perhaps experimenting with gluten free baking and vegan cooking at home.
