Early on, it’s all about building fast, shipping, proving there’s something there. Over time, the decisions get heavier, trade-offs are less obvious, and the consequences of a misstep carry more weight.\r\n\r\nThat’s when the role of a partner matters most: someone who believes small decisions compound into larger outcomes, meaning no question is too small and no interaction is treated as routine.\r\n\r\nShravan Narayen embodies that approach, and today we are proud to share that Shravan is IVP’s newest General Partner.\r\n\r\n##### **Bending the growth curve**\r\n\r\nThere are plenty of ways investors get defined — pattern recognition, network, access. Most of that is expected. What founders value beyond the usual credentials is harder to find. Someone who understands what they’re trying to create, sees the problem clearly, and can add something useful as they work through it.\r\n\r\nThat’s exactly what Shravan brings to the table.\r\n\r\nAs Tuhin Srivastava, CEO of Baseten, shares, \"Shravan shows up constantly as a board member, thought partner and most importantly, an empathetic friend. Whether brainstorming product ideas, leadership hires, fundraises, or just discussing Indian food, he's clearly in the boat with us.\" Tuhin adds that \"Shravan deeply respects the founder journey, understands where he can help, and is always around as a resource.\"\r\n\r\nAs Eduardo Torrealba, CEO of Lumafield, puts it, “Even though Shravan hasn't been a CEO, he's a great sounding board on strategy and thinks about his role in the same way that I usually only get from other venture-backed CEOs.”\r\n\r\nThat instinct comes in part from his time on the operating side, but mostly reflects his character; he’s attentive to detail but grounded in the broader direction of the business.\r\n\r\nIn one case, a brief suggestion from Shravan during a board discussion quickly turned into an additional revenue stream. “I’m sure we would have built that eventually,” Eduardo says, “but great board members like Shravan help you bend the growth curve of your company and get to wins faster than you would have on your own.” He went on to say, “He's responsive, engaged, level-headed, and does literally everything I'd ever want from a partner while I'm building my company.”\r\n\r\n##### **Compassion that carries through**\r\n\r\nAs Rotem Lurie, CEO of Venice, recalls, their first interaction didn't follow the usual pattern. After his initial email got lost in her inbox, most investors would have kept following up or tried to find a CEO to introduce them. Shravan did neither — instead, he reached out through a close personal friend of Rotem's, someone with no connection to the business, who texted to say he'd been in her HBS study group and was simply one of the best people she knew. \"That's what's so unique about Shravan,\" Rotem says. \"He sees *people*, and he is just the best at it.\"\r\n\r\n##### **Winning trust**\r\n\r\nShravan’s philosophy has always been to stay disciplined about where he can actually add value, and be human first.\r\n\r\nAfter one board meeting, Rotem remembers a follow-up from Shravan the next day. It wasn’t about figures or performance, but leadership — a respectful note on how to get more out of the people around the table. “Anyone can look at the numbers and tell you if they make sense, but only a true, genuine, and sensitive partner sees that as an opportunity to make me a better leader.”\r\n\r\nAravind Srinivas, CEO and Co-Founder at Perplexity, describes him as bringing technical depth and strategic clarity, with an ability to operate across infrastructure, enterprise, applications, and consumer. “He adapts quickly to new data,” he says, adding that “he’s equally unafraid of doing hard analysis and modeling work as he is building relationships across the entire ecosystem.”\r\n\r\n##### **Partnership that stands the test of time**\r\n\r\nAt IVP, partnership has always meant more than capital. As we look ahead to our next 45 years of partnering with exceptional founders, we’re proud to have Shravan helping carry that legacy forward.",{"id":28,"assetUrl":8},"635",{"assetUrl":8},[],"partnership-for-decades",[33],{"fullName":34,"teamSubcategories":35,"slug":46,"image":47,"abbreviatedTitle":56,"focusAreas":57,"emailAddress":58,"bio":59},"Somesh Dash",[36,42],{"name":37,"slug":38,"teamCategory":39},"Digital Health","digital-health",{"name":40,"slug":41},"Investors","investors",{"name":43,"slug":44,"teamCategory":45},"Infrastructure","infrastructure",{"name":40,"slug":41},"somesh-dash",{"id":48,"alt":7,"caption":8,"assetUrl":49,"assetUrlXs":50,"assetUrlSm":51,"assetUrlMd":52,"assetUrlLg":53,"assetUrlXl":54,"assetUrlXxl":55},"2389","https://assets.ivp.com/system/uploads/fae/image/asset/2389/IVP_Headshots_1090px_D_Somesh.jpg","https://assets.ivp.com/system/uploads/fae/image/asset/2389/xs_IVP_Headshots_1090px_D_Somesh.jpg","https://assets.ivp.com/system/uploads/fae/image/asset/2389/sm_IVP_Headshots_1090px_D_Somesh.jpg","https://assets.ivp.com/system/uploads/fae/image/asset/2389/md_IVP_Headshots_1090px_D_Somesh.jpg","https://assets.ivp.com/system/uploads/fae/image/asset/2389/lg_IVP_Headshots_1090px_D_Somesh.jpg","https://assets.ivp.com/system/uploads/fae/image/asset/2389/xl_IVP_Headshots_1090px_D_Somesh.jpg","https://assets.ivp.com/system/uploads/fae/image/asset/2389/xxl_IVP_Headshots_1090px_D_Somesh.jpg","General Partner","Security & Defensetech, Healthcare AI, Global Consumer Platforms","sdash@ivp.com","In the first decade of my career, I encountered two major economic downturns: the dot-com collapse of 2001 and the global financial crisis of 2007–2008. Widespread bankruptcies and layoffs made palpable how difficult the startup journey is for founders and how essential it is to keep the macro in mind as you scale. Since then, I’ve found that this growth mindset applies to most facets of life. Rather than isolating risks and failures, I strive to identify potential and tackle challenges through collaborative problem solving. \r\n\r\nAs an investor, the sectors I work in exist at inflection points that are truly historic. An onslaught of data paired with the transition to cloud is transforming the software landscape. Threat vectors in security are increasing in scope and severity. The shift from PC to mobile to AI platforms is generating persistent evolution in consumer experiences. And healthcare is forever changed by COVID-19. Playing even a small part as a partner to the companies most likely to transform these industries is incredibly meaningful to me. \r\n\r\nOver the years, I’ve found that the best founders are exceptional by definition—no two are the same. Some are introverts, others extroverts; some are operationally detailed, others are strategic masterminds. What all successful founders share is unwavering commitment and perseverance. The road from startup to scale-up is fraught with risks and challenges, and the greatest leaders are those who can will themselves and their teams to succeed despite the odds.",{"id":61,"alt":7,"caption":8,"assetUrl":8,"assetUrlXs":8,"assetUrlSm":8,"assetUrlMd":8,"assetUrlLg":8,"assetUrlXl":8,"assetUrlXxl":8},"2778","Partnership for Decades",1778684520198]
